What We Look for in a Counselor
The staff who are selected to work and volunteer (yes, even our volunteers are selected!) at Camp Swamp are people who have exemplary character. They are fun-loving, high energy, creative people who like working with children in an outdoor setting. They are spiritually-minded and are able to share with children their appreciation for God. In short, they like to play hard and work hard with all types of children. The bulk of our staff is college students. Although this might seem young to some, we find that their energy level is contagious. Young counselors make great heroes to the kids. Our staff is comprised of people we trust to influence our own children, so you can be assured that we feel confident in their ability to take care of your child. In addition, our staff is reliable, honest, and they are people with high principles for themselves. They are tremendous servants and live by a set of standards that ensure the safety of every member of camp. Anyone applying to be a Counselor is required to submit an application of health, obtain a letter of recommendation, complete a Swamp Values paragraph, and pass a third-party background check.

What We Look for in a Teen Worker
Teen workers are an integral, behind-the-scenes necessity of camp. A group of 6-10 workers are used each week for duties such as trash pickup, canteen stocking, canteen cashier, dishes, cleanup, game/activity set up or assistance, and other duties as needed; in essence they are the gears that keep the clock running. There is no cost to the teen…well, except for blood, sweat and tears. 🙂 Anyone applying to be a Teen Worker is required to be a camper for one week at own expense, submit an application of health, obtain a letter of recommendation, complete a Camp Swamp Values paragraph, and pass a third-party background check.
